From awards to festivals, the architecture and design calendar hosts some prestigious and highly regarded events throughout the year. Here’s our list of some of the best international architecture events to look out for:
EU Mies Award (May)
Named after renowned architect Mies van der Rohe, this award highlights the best architecture in Europe once every two years.
As Europe’s biggest annual architecture festival, the London Festival of Architecture is a full month of events, including open studios and workshops.
Expo 2017 (June – September)
This year’s Expo, held in Kazakhstan, has the theme of ‘Future Energy’. While the Expos showcase a variety of achievements by each attending country, they have in recent years attracted a lot of attention for the country pavilions and other structures designed by some innovative and high-profile architects, such as Zaha Hadid and Foster + Partners.
RIBA Stirling Prize (October)
One of the most prestigious prizes in architecture, the RIBA Stirling Prize is awarded to the best new building in the European Union, with previous winners including Waterloo International in London, the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh, and the MAXXI in Rome.
World Architecture Festival (November)
Since 2008, the World Architecture Festival has celebrated the best of international architecture, recognising contemporary landmarks, such as Oslo Opera House, The Helix in Singapore, and the Danish Maritime Museum.
